For eight months, the peculiar circumstances surrounding the sudden death of Steven Brandwein's lover, an enigmatic ex-priest, have weighted his mourning with mystery. Desperate for emotional closure, Steve makes a journey he's put off for years he travels to the town that was once an integral part of his late lover's life. Steve hopes his pilgrimage will help him better understand Frank, serve as a final farewell, and allow him to move on.
His visit to St. Jerome's Church one snowy, silent night proves more consequential than he'd ever anticipated. Evan McAllister, an unassuming man still grieving over the death of his son, befriends Steve. As their bond grows, they both make startling discoveries—not the least of which, for Steve, is that he's ready to love again.

This is one of those books that I know I'll be re-reading over and over again. The emotions and thoughts are multi-layered, and I notice something new every time I read it. As for the longer part, it's not that it's not a complete story, because it is, and a little goes a loooong way; it's just that I liked the main characters so much in both their strengths and weaknesses, that I wanted to spend more time with them.Product details

The Prayer Waltz edition by KZ Snow Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Beautifully written story dealing with the pain of loss, prejudice, and learning to love again in this crazy complicated world. So many facets to these characters and their story, it was easy to get lost in the words.
This is such a beautiful story, and somewhat different from the run-of-the-mill M/M romance. I won't recap the story since other reviewers have done a wonderful job of telling the plot.
The writing is exquisite and the characters are so lovingly and delicately created, and the story just FLOWS into this tale of loss and love. Do yourself a favor and experience this wonderful book!
With The Prayer Waltz, K.Z. Snow paints a masterpiece with words that flows effortlessly. I envy this author's gift. While there were unanswered questions, for instance, "What really happened to Frank?" that was part of the beauty of the story telling. He remained a mystery and served his purpose by bringing his two former lovers together. My heart ached for Frank, but I'm free to imagine why he behaved as he did, even while cheering for Steven and Evan.
This book haunted me, and days after reading it still preyed upon my mind. I'll reread this stunning novella again and again.
Steven's lover Frank, a former priest, died about 8 months ago. As part of the healing process he heads 3 hours from Minneapolis to his lover's former small town to try and figure out what made him tick. At the church where he was posted (I'm sure there's a word but I'm falling into diplomatic speak) he starts to get some closure. He heads to the bar across the street and meets Evan (who was cleaning in the church). Seems Evan knew Frank so Steven invites him back to his room to talk. He finds out that Evan and Frank had a fling while Frank was still a priest. He's feeling very confused and wonders if he ever knew Frank during their 4 years together. He's attracted to Evan though and they strike up a friendship which after a few rough moments here and there takes off like wildfire while Steven continues to figure out who Frank really was. Okay, I needed a tissue here a couple of times. I'm not talking all out sobbing but I think in the first 5 pages in the church I was sniffling. Evan lost his teen son in a car accident a year ago so I was sniffling some more as he writes his son letters as a way of coping with the loss. Damn you woman, don't make me sniffle. I also chuckled several times as well especially at the end when Steven is helping clean the church. I would classify this is a gentle story. You just got that feel, yes there was angst but it wasn't the kind of harsh angst, in fact I think the cover fits very well. Those soft muted blues and purples reminded me of the book. A very soft way of writing and dealing with loss on both sides. So I think it was a terrific read and KZ really made me feel the emotion of the two men. Hence the tissue (okay, it was a napkin, but close enough).
I really enjoy The Prayer Waltz. The story line is original and emotionally challenging without being morbid. 2 men struggling to get over the death of their loved ones and at the same time linked together by a dead lover. There is an underlying poignant tone in the beginning of the story.
Steve grieving over the death of his lover, Frank, paid a visit to Frank's abandoned church trying to get a closure. Frank is an ex-priest and has died recently, the cause of his death declared an accident. Or is it? This question tormented Steve as he realizes that he hardly knows his dead lover after being together for years. Enter Evan, a resident in the small town who is grieving over the death of his teenage son, Scott. These 2 men soon realized they are connected by Father Frank who is the closeted Evan's first male lover. More questions arise. Who is Father Frank? What drives this tormented priest who finally left the priesthood? Is he a man of God offering comfort or is he a predator on the innocence? As you can see, the outstanding character in this story is actually this deceased but intriguing Father Frank. The questions are never truly answered. Yet we may already have the answers through Steve's musings, which gives a positive tone to the story in the end.
And the other character whom I find interesting is Evan's dead son Scott. This teenager may be dead but he does strike a chord. We know Evan has been a good father. And yet he feels he has somehow failed, his own insidious suspicion not helping him to move on. Evan's frequent prayers to Scott is most touching. And when Evan discovers the truth about his son, I got sort of teary eyed. I hate the death of one so young!
Both Steve and Evan are likable but for me they are upstaged by the 2 deceased characters. As this is foremost a romance Steve and Evan of course have their happy ending and certain exchanges in their sex scenes are comical. As it is typical they got together too fast. I wish this has been a novel where these 2 guys have more time to explore their relationship because the serious tone of the story certainly justify more depth in their romance. Still as a novella, this little story is quality writing. Definitely looking forward to more from this writer.
I would give it 6*, but not possible ;-))
Wonderful and warm story which leaves you feeling fuzzy and nice!
